Big Plans
We have received such a warm Lake County welcome and everyone wants to know what we’re up to!
We always knew what we wanted. Some land for grape vines and farming and an ‘out’ building for a commercial kitchen to support catering, a food truck and cooking classes. You’d think that wouldn’t be a hard list here in Mendocino & Lake counties where we focused our Northern California property search, but it was a hard list! Oh and we did not want a big house again. For sure. No doubt. Absolutely. Well, as someone once said “there is an oft neglected human truth that love is not a choice you make in life but a recognition.” We recognized our new home the minute we saw it and fell in love with it.
A wonderful feeling but a lousy bargaining position!
We also knew there would be much work to do, not just in this huge old farmhouse but all over the property. We’re on it and we think you’ll enjoy our plans. We’re starting from scratch on the farm, so we began quite small. It will eventually be about four times the size of this year. Two acres of merlot grape vines are already growing at the nursery and will be planted here in March 2018. And the barn and field gazebo grill pit are in the build process and will be great spaces to supply an event & weekend food truck, catering of all sorts and beautiful venues for a cooking class.
This will all take a bit of time. Even by my always-overly-rosy projections, it’ll be 1-2 years before we a fully up and running. That’s ok, there’s plenty of time. We love it here and I’m afraid Lake County is stuck with us!
